My grandfather was born 7/23/19 in Miss. He was drafted into the US Army in 1940 and retired in 1970 He was in the mule brigade until he heard a call for volunteers for the airborne. Happy to get out of the mule division, he hurried to sign up even though he did not even know what the airborne was. In WWII he was in the 101st and fought in the battle of the bulge. He said he really wasn't sure he was going to make it out of there, he also said the same thing about vietnam. He graduted from the very first special forces class and he remained in special forces until his retirement. He was in operation bright star in laos and completed 2 tours of duty in vietnam. He was a wonderful man who taught me good moral values and I will never forget him.On 9/20/00, he had a full military funeral and was buried on a section of land on his property, beside the pond he loved so much. He earned a combat jump patch, glider wings and so many medals and ribbons that I have no idea what they are. I am so proud to have had such a great man as my grandpa even if he was hard headed as my grandma says. They were married for 54 years. If anyone out there served with my grandfather, I would love to hear from you. He was stationed in Okinawa and Germany as well.
