Looking for any information on groups that trained at the Bomb School at Deming, New Mexico. My father, Jack Robert Smith trained there, and resigned as an enlisted man to become an officer. His final training was at Sioux City, IA, I believe.I found a photo of him with his crew beside their bom ber, with surnames on the back and a note that the photo was made "during their stay in Sioux City, Iowa," probably in late 1943 or early 1944.The crew list is as follows:
Standing (Left to Right): Leibman, Radio Operator Hiller, Waist Gunner Scarbrough, Tail Gunner Crane, Navigator Smith, Bombardier (My dad, Jack Robert Smith) Schroeder, Pilot Sarkovich, Co-Pilot
Does anyone recognize any of these names? I would love to find any of these men who knew my dad.
I still haven't been able to find the Squadron or Division, etc.(the info I got from the Records Reconstruction Branch didn't show it and said that his records may have been destroyed in the 1973 fire). I have a copy of his discharge papers as an enlisted man and his Certificate ofService as an officer. I vaguely remember that Mother (Mary Swint Smith) went with him to Boise, Idaho at one time, probably before going to Sioux City, IA. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Becky Smith
