I'm trying to find any of my dad's WWII Bomber crew members. They were trained at Sioux City, IA, late 1943 or early 1944.I have the last names of all of them, but no first names.I'd thought they flew B24s, but may have been B17s.
Did crews usually go through all their training together as a unit?
Were crews chosen from the same geographical area where the individuals enlisted?I know where my dad enlisted if that might be any help in finding anything.
My dad's first training, as an enlisted man, was at the Bomb School in Deming, NM.He resigned to accept a commission as an officer, and after that went to Sioux City for training.I have a photo of his crew while they were in Sioux City, standing beside what I assumed was their bomber.
I have both his enlisted and officer's service numbers, but I don't know a division, squadron, etc., and haven't been able to get it from the National Personnel Records Center. It's possible his records were destroyed in the 1973 fire.
Can anybody give me some ideas?I hope to be able to contact some of the men he served with if any of them may still be living and to find more complete information on my father as well. Thanks for any help! Becky
