In late March and early April of 1945, the 45th Infantry Division, the Thunderbirds, met unexpectedly strong resistance from German forces and civilians in the Battle of Aschaffenburgh on the east bank of the Main River.
The battle was extensively researched by U.S. Army Major Quentin Schillare for his thesis while a student at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
The thesis is 205 pages long, and is over five megabytes.
