All due respects to the 8th Air Force and the terrific job they did in WW II, I would like to recommend a book about another Air Force.Michael Claringbould's book "The Forgotten Fifth".It is the story of the 5th Air Force in the S.W. Pacific. After FDR and Churchill made the decision to defeat Germany first, the Pacific became the step child of WW II.The 5th Air Force was left to fight a war with one arm tied behind them. They recieved the "hand me downs" and "left overs" from the ETO.While the 8th was sending 1,000 plane missions over Germany, the 5th was lucky to put 2 to 3 hundred planes in the air for a mission.
