I am afraid that you have mixed apples and oranges on this one.
The 104th Infantry Regiment was one of three IR in the 26th Infantry Division along with the 101st IR and 328th IR, not in the 79th ID, as you list it.
The 79th ID included three Infantry Regiments (313th, 314th, 315th), along with other elements.
Both divisions served in the European theater, and at about the same time. They also shared the same campaign experiences except for the 79th ID fighting at Normandy following D-Day.
Perhaps you can better identify the unit by
26th ID left NY P/E 8-27-44;
arrived France 9-7-44.
Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace,Central Europe.
Entered combat 10-25-44.
