Awesome information and exactly what I am looking for. My dad said the ship he went over on 5 Dec 1943 was called "Hop Along Cassidy" they arrived 15 Dec 1943 at Scotland and he returned 18 Oct 1945 leaving from what he thought to be the same place where they came ashore at on Utah Beach the returning ship was called "Eisenhower" arriving at NY 26 Oct 1945.
Dad said going over there were 64 ships in his convoy and the whole convoy was chased to Scotland by German submarines and the troops came back to England on trains. He did not say how many were in his convoy coming home.
In England he was in a camp in or near a town called Selsey he stayed there until they crossed the channel to Utah Beach. I hope to learn more about the camp.
Thank you again for the response and the awesome information.
