Anticipating your next question, the Philippine Defense Medal was authorized for individuals who participated in the Defense of the Philippines from 7 December 1941 to 15 June 1942. It was awarded by the Government of the Commonwealth of the Philippines to:
1. Individuals who served not less than 30 days in Philippine territory or Philippine waters during the above period.
2. Individuals who participated in actual combat against the enemy on Philippine soil, in Philippine waters or in the air over Philippine territory or waters during the specified time frame.
Individuals eligible under both the above provisions are authorized to wear one bronze service star on the ribbon.
