I have the March 1945 After Action Report for the 179th Infantry Regiment.
Under 16 March, it states:
“While Company A moved north along the ridge on the left of the 179th sector,C pushed on and took Herbitzheim at 2000 and Company B assaulted Bliesbruck.Meeting stiff resistance Baker Company still had 10 - 15 houses to clear at 1650, but by 1745 the town was secured; the company took 42 PWs, killed 20 Germans and suffered about 18 casualties in the fight.C Company patrols made contact with the 180th INF at Rubenheim.
“Simultaneously, Company G jumped off and at 1040 held the part of Bliesbruck southeast of La Blies. The remainder of the 2nd Bn attacked north, taking the portion of Gersheim east of the river.”
I, too, salute your service with the Thunderbirds. My Uncle Nick joined the 157th, 3rd Bn, after the disaster at Reipertswiller, not very far from Bliesbruck.
