I am from II Corps, but was not with the unit where/when you were. Instead, I was in the 985th Field Artillery Battalion, II Corps, Fifth Army, in Italy, from Jan-45 'til the end of the war, at which time I came under SHAPE in Caserta.
The 985th went to Africa, but saw no combat there. Later, it went to the line for their first encounter, which was the assault on Monte Cassino. It participated in the Rome-Arno, North Apennines and Po River campaigns. I participated in the last two.
I wonder if your records include any information related to the 985th FA BN, which was not division based. I have reviewed extensively, but find that since it was not connected with a particular division, there is relatively little documentation available on the unit.
The battalion was originally a Wisconsin National Guard outfit, which was taken into the Federal system early on.
Any information you can provide will be most appreciated.
With best regards and best wishes for you in your quest,
