Hello Ken,
My father-inp-law Leora "Speed" Emery served with the 99th Div., 395th Inf. Anti-Tank Co. but prior to this was with the 1st Div., and I believe 26th Inf, he participated in Operation Torch at Oran as well as the Normandy landings. It appears sometime during the Battle of the Bulge, possibly around Dec. 15th, 1944 he was assigned to the 99th Div and his seperation of the Army record states him with the 99th. I have been trying to find a explaination as to him being assigned from the 1st Div to the 99th Div. Would you have any idea? was this common, I know the 1st Div, 26th Inf were engaged at the Battle of the Bulge but I have not had any luck in trying to explain him being reassigned to the 99th, any help would be greatly appreciated. My wife as well as my 5 brother-in-laws and late Mother-in-law had no idea of any of this until I happen upon his Seperation papers and Honorable Discharge, apparently he never spoke about this time in his life so nobody in his family have any idea. My father-in-law passed away in 1972 when my wife was just 8 years old and I would like to put together a record of his service so his family including myself will know about his great service to this country. He earned the Bronze star medal while in the 1st Div. and had 8 bronze campaign stars on his bar pin, he joined the army in November of 1941 and I have only found him having 1 leave (15 days) which was in December of 1941
best reagrds,
Mark K. Smith
