If you GOOGLE, enter .
Scroll down to 1st Infantry Dvision;
drop way down to ASSIGNMENTS/DETACHMENTS;
drop down to Infantry, and you will note that the 26th IR was attached to 99th ID, for a limited period, 17/18-Dec 44
Repeat for 99th ID, and you will note that 26th IR was attached to 99th ID for same dates.
Both divisions were in Liege, Belgium, and participated at the Battle of Bulge.
There may well have been a re-classification and re-assignment for Speed in that period.There was a lot of that necessary due to the pressing conditions of combat at the time.
I think I would contact the respective associations, and see if either could shed any light on the situation.The 99th may have a roster which includes him.
I hope that I haven't muddied the track too much.
