I am sorry, but I did not know your grandfather. In fact, my service time was in the Field Artillery in Italy.
However, I have gleaned some information, which I wish to share with you and your family.
There is a single unit listed (1060th) which is possibly the one you are seeking. It is :
1060th.ENGINEER PORT CONSTRUCTION and REPAIR GROUP
Activated at Camp Gordon Johnston, FL, 22 Nov 43; relocated/Jackson Barracks, LA, 4 Aug 44; departed New Orleans P/E 22 Aug 44; arrived Hollandia, New Guinea 2 Oct 44; redesignated HHC, Engineer Port Construction and Repair 6 Jan 45; invaded Lingayen Gulf, Philippines 5 Jan 45; inactivated there 10 Feb 46.
The offensive against the Lingayan sector of Luzon under General Kruger's Sixth Army lasted from 7 Jan/23 Jan 45. It involved I Corps under General Swift, which included the 6th Infantry Division and the 43rd Infantry Division, plus XIV Corps under General Griswold, which included the 37th ID and the 40th ID.
I still have to determine what the divisional deployment of the 1060th was. Perhaps tomorrow.
Campaigns : New Guinea, Luzon.
I have no data available concerning casualties.
That is all for this sitting.
Hope it helps.
I hope that your grand father survived the experience, and is alive and well.
