Hello, Trying to find out more information about other military people who served in the Hq Co. 44th Tk Bn New Guinea Campaign during WWII. My father, Louis Poulos (a Greek Immigrant - not yet a naturalized U.S. Citizen) served as a cook for the above Unit.
Among his decorations was the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with One Bronze Star.He suffered from non-combat but life threatening injuries and was sent back for medical care to the U.S. to Dewitt General Hospital in Auburn, California.
He was inducted into the Army Oct. 1942 at the age of 39and discharged March 1945.He said his fellow soldiers called him "POPS" since he was much older than his buddies. I would love to hear from any others who served or had information about those who might have served in my father's unit in New Guinea and/or their families.
Thanks for your assistance. Kathie Poulos-Schweiss
