Lieutenant Gold was a member of the 337th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 96th Bombardment Group (Heavy) when he died on 27 May 1944. The 96th Group was an element of 8th Air Force. A partial list of his decorations and awards would include the Air Medal (2 awards), Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal (prior enlisted service). The 96th Group was awarded two Presidential Unit Citations for aerial raids against enemy manufacturing at Regensburg, Germany 17 August 1943 and at Poznan, Occupied Poland, 9 April 1944. He's interred in Section I, Row #24, Grave #22 at American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) Normandy Cemetery, St. Laurent-sur-Mer, Normandy, France.
