If you google "2nd Infantry Division" you should be able to track down the "order of battle". This shows what units were part of the 2nd ID. An infantry division had it's own tank unit to help the infantry overcome enemy strong points. There are also tank battalions that were held as a reserve at army or corps level. These were sent out in cases that required additional firepower. So the best way to identify a tank unit is to have the personel records of the individual you are researching. If he was in charge of a tank he would be xcalled a "tank commander". They were usually sargents with one tank of a squad being commanded by an officer.
