When I joined the 99th FDision in March , 1944 from the defunct ASTP program, the 99th was at Camp Maxey, Paris, Texas fom where we departed in August 1944.
We were a few weeks at Camp Miles Standish. Mass. before sailing for England from Boston about Sept11th. We spent Sept and Oct at Dorchester, England before leaving for the front through LeHavre in early Nov, 1944, hearing artillery fire on the 4th of Nov.
Assigned to a "quiet" sector for "conditioning", we got hit on Dec 16 by Sepp Dietrich's SS panzer corps.
In March, we were the first full divsion ro cross the Rhine at Remagen. A couple weeks after we crossed , the weakened bridge fell into the Rhine.
