Hi Nicole,
My dad came home with his discharge papers, some Phillipine money, malaria and some hearing loss due to being an artillery commander. As far as I know he didn't even get medals, campaign ribbons or good conduct stuff.
He would've gone "stark raving mad" if people on the homefront had not sent him books to read. I still have a hardback copy of the Rubiyat of Omar Khayam that he got then and he signed the inside page LT. Clark B Nowak.
Five years after the war when he was raising a family, working and also in the Army reserves, the army wanted to promote him to Captain and send him to Korea and dad said "no way". He gave up his commission and quit the reserves.
