Richard, Thanks for all of your information. It was very informative and sounds what I always believed, ie that my father was initially in the infantry despite his separation papers showing AAF. If my father was reassigned to the AAF from AGF would he have then also changed his uniform to AAF and would he have also worn the patches, DUI, pins, etc of the AAF. The only wounds he ever mentioned was frostbite and having the very tip of his nose shot off which was reconstructed from part of his ear. I am waiting to get his OMPF but I don't know have much was saved from the 1973 fire at NPRC. Is there a website that list the ships and units that departed on March 23,1944? I initially thought that he might have been with the 28th Infantry Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division but will have to wait on his files to find out more. I'll have to read up on history of 90th Infantry Division. His campaigns were listed as Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. I don't know if this corresponds which the 90th Infantry Division.
