Okay, I am so confused and just don't undersand.I have my grandpa's seperation papers, his registration with the county he was coming to and his obituatry. His seperation papers say Grade Tech 5 Sig C (Arm of Service) AUS Army United States (Component) Campaigns fought were Naples-Foggia Rome-Arno and North Adennines.I know his was in Egypt, and in North Africa.I know for a fact in North Africa he was there with Gen. Mark Clark's 5th army, but whether or not he was apart of the 5th or another one fighting with them I don't know. Date of Departure 30 December 1942 Destination Middle East Theatre Arrival Date 1 Feb 1943 Returned home July 16 1945 Received the EMEA Ribbon given to soldiers who fought in multiple campaigns. Certified as a 30 cal sharpshooter and motor vehicle driver award. The Seperation papers do not list him company or battalion however his obituary states that he was a part of the 435th signal corp battalion and attended the 435th reunion. Now this is where i get confused. When you google that nothing comes up! There are a few other things with 435th but NO sig corp bat. Theres 435th infrantry division which has like the 101 Signal Company (doesn't say batallion says company) and even if you google for a history of sig corp battalions 435th isn't listed as company or battalion. However there were a 35th Sig Corp Bat and a 43rd Sig Corp Bat. Would that be a combination of them both? The 35th Sig Corp was constitued Dec. 1942 and actived from camp Crowder 2/1943 and was deactived Oct 1945.Which Camp Crowder is where my grandpa trained from Sept 1942-Dec 1942.Also at what point is a soldier assigned to a Battalion and company? Is it when they get to basic or when they are deployed?Whats the difference between company and battalion? Like when it refers to the 101st signal company and then theres like 35th sig corp battalion, and then XXXSig Corp Bat Company B? Sorry I know a ton of questions but i'm quite confused! Were the Sig Corp always part of an infrantry division (or at least a lineman in charge of setting up communications)?Oh and doubtthis helps but the pay disbursment officer was E.W Phillips and the person who signed his Certificate that was filed with the county was Major Patrick Shanley.
