My Dad was in first platoon Company B 48th Armored Infantry. In October 1944 the 87th Cavalry along with their tanks were supposed to support B Company attacking Meijel Holland but instead retreated. My Dad was wounded and captured by the Germans and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. Not a glorious day for the 87th! I nor my Dad never held a grudge as I also was wounded in Vietnam. My Dad drank hisself to death from the horrors of that war. I have always wondered what would have happened if the 87th had stayed and fought instead of running!
