Your dad's unit was one of three Infantry Regiments of the 44th Infantry Division (71st.IR, 114th IR, 325th IR), plus other elements.
He may have sailed from Boston P/E 8 Jan 45, on the USS MARIPOSA, arriving Marseilles, France, 18 Jan 45. ( I say "may" because this is the only sailing I have listed for the 8th, but the arrival date is off by 3 days).
And he may have returned on the US MONTEREY, which sailed from Le Harve, France, 26 Jun 45, arriving NY P/E 3 Jul 45. (Again, "may" because this is the only sailing I have for around your stated dates.)
The division landed in France as a unit 15 Sep 44, and entered Germany 25 Mar 45. He arrived 15 Jan 45, which suggests that he was a replacement.
The division went into combat 24 Oct 44,and was engaged for 230 days, during which it experienced 1,038 men killed in action, 4,209 wounded and 168 died from wounds.
The division was under the command of Major General Wm. F. Dean during Lewis's period in combat.
I refer you to WORLD WAR II ORDER of BATTLE, Shelby L. Stanton, author, for the division's combat history.
I also recommend that you seek out the history under SEARCH, by entering <44th Infantry Division Association>.
Sorry, but my references are not such as to include individual company elements normally, so I can not provide insight into Company K, 325th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division.
