My Uncle was in the 60th Infantry 9th div. and was KIA at Normandy on July 18,1944 and was interred at St. Mere Eglise Cem. until after the war and then sent to Fl. for reburial.I have gotten the personnel file telling about what personal effects were found on him and where he was wounded but is there any other kind of military files on a WWII soldier when he was alive and in the regiment? I was told in a letter of the "fire of 1973".Would these have been the military records? ALso, since he was KIA in France then is there not a death certificate issued for FLorida or France ??I have always been told no cert. is found when searching in Fl.I am not sure whether a death certificate is issued if a soldier is killed during a war.Any info is appreciated.
