371st Infantry was one of three (not five) regiments assigned to 92d Infantry Division ("assignment" and "attachment" are just two of a great many military terms Turner can't seem to get straight). The 92d was one of two black divisions active during the war.
442d Infantry was a regimental combat team (RCT) that spent most of the war attached to 34th and 36th Infantry Divisions. The 442d RCT was attached to the 92d briefly toward the end of the war in Italy.
