What an interesting inquiry, one that triggered something I hadn't thought of in many moons.
I got mine while enroute by train from Fort Sill, OK, to Fort Meade, MD, in Dec-44, where we were staged (conditioned) for overseas assignment.
There were 21 members of the Fort Sill Field Artillery cadre who were "selected" for this trip.
Silver Certificate Dollars were circulated, with each man signing the bill.
I have looked back on mine today, and just as I suspected, that was it, only our signitures.
My dollar took me to Italy, as a member of 985th Field Artillery, II Corps, Fifth Army.
It accompanied me back to Texas 19 Feb 46.
