Greetings, Tim Martz!
My friend, Riccardo, a native and resident of Florence, Italy, tells me that you have an abbreviation for the word for street, plus the name of the street, but not the name of the town.
VIC = Vicolo, "a very narrow street".
C.Da costa would be the name of a street.
Probably means Carlo da Costa, who is presumed to have been a very important person in this town's early history , (or from that area), for whom the street was named.
He assumes that the soldier was killed in a very narrow street, Vicolo C. Da Costa, in a very old town.
If you can identify the town, he will try to expand this response. OK ?
