Greetings, Sharon !!!
Sorry that I can't ID your dad, but the date would have been 12-17-1944.
Do you have any unit identification other than that he drove a "four track"? I have several excellent references (gifts from my kids through the years), which have provided
me much satisfaction involving inquiries such as yours.
If relatives can give you just a little additional information to go on, I will be pleased to search for you, without cost, of course.
For example, the book entitled "2194 Days of War, an Illustrated Chronology of WW II",
compiled by Salmaggi and Pallavisine, published bt Barnes and Noble Books, NYNY gives the following account for activities at or in the area of the bulge on 12-17-94:
"Western Front:
The 82nd. and 101st. Airborne Divisions (XVIII Corps, 1st. Airborne Army)
are dispatched to the Ardennes front, where the Gernan offensive is going ahead.
In the 3rd. Army sector, the 5th. Division continues releaving the units of the 95th. Division (XX Corps) in the Saarlautern bridgehead.
Units of the US 7th. Army ((XV and VI Corps) are almost completely halted in front of the outer defences of the Siegfried Line."

There is a three page narrative describing the action on 12-16-44, the day the battle started (with a couple of pictures).

My war was in Italy. I was brought up to Fort Meade, MD from Fort Sill, OK, and was destined to route to the Bulge, but the situation had eased prior to sailing from Hampton Roads, VA, and we were rerouted to Naples.
I was a Chief of Section, 985th Field Artillery Battalion, II Corps, Fifth Army.
Sorry about your dad's trials and passing.
Please be in touch.
With best regards,
Louie Franklin Turner, Fort Worth, TX.
