Yes, I was in WW II, served in Italy, as a matter of fact.
I was a young (we were all so young then) Chief-of-Section, 985th Field Artillery Battalion, II Corps, Fifth Army.
I passed through the port at Naples on the USS GENERAL RICHARDSON, arriving there by way of Hampton Roads, VA, Port of Embarkation,25 Jan 45,... went to the REPO Depot at Casserta,... thence to the line above Florence, first week of Feb-45.
I stayed in the line for about 100 days, when to my complete surprise, the war ended 2 May 45, which gave me credit for two campaigns, North Apennines and Po River.
Departed Naples on the USS MARINE CARP, 19 Feb 46.
Separated at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, 11 May 46.
There I go again...too long winded.
Thanks again, Patty, and let me know if I can be of further assistance in your quest.
