My uncle died in Germany during WWII.I sent for his records, but the only thing they have in file is two pages. One is a Report of Death memorandum dated Jun 16, 1949.It was the identification of him as an MIA.The other was from the AG office giving a little bit of info on him, and advising that his mother had been notified.
My grandmother, not his mother, never talked about him.My mother, who raised him, talked very seldom. She would start crying and refuse to speak again.
The only things I remember is when we saw a couple of movies, Mother mentioned that Junior was in that. One was the Red Ball Express, the other the Battle of the Bulge.I remember that he trained in Texas.
His death record shows that he was with the 12th Armored Div., 17th Armored Infantry Batt. when he died. However, when I looked up this group I found that they didn't ship out to Europe until late 1944.I remember Junior visiting me near my 9th birthday, 1943, saying he was shipping out.He enlisted on Oct 26, 1942 when he was 18, and died Apr 6, 1945.near Wurzburg, Germany.
Is there any way I can find out what units he served with prior to the 17 Batt.?
