My question about a bronze star or arrowhead is, aren't they small devices that are attached to other ribbons or badges denoting a significant battle, or as in the arrowhead the first units into battle? They aren't medals per say are they, they are just pinned on to other ribbons or badges? My dad was with a highly decorated unit with the 82nd Airborne in WWII, the 320th Glider Field Artillary. (See posting # 4692) He died when I was 3 years old in 1954 from cancer. I'm trying to reconstruct his military experience in WWII nearly 60 years later, and his records were destroyed in the fire of the 70's. I was lucky enough to still have a dog tag with his military ID and took info off his grave marker stating his unit and battery. The next best thing was he registered his discharge papers (DD-214) at the County Hall of Records. The Army has basically only info that he served.
