Hello again, Paula !

Casualties were/are grouped in three classes:

KIA, Killed in Action
WIA, Wounded in Action
DOW, Died of Wound.

Now he may have died the same day as wounded, or he may have had a lingering death in hospital. Either way, he would be classed DOW.

Had he been shot, shelled or otherwise hit, with immediate death, he would have been classed KIA.

Based on this last information you received, I feel confident that he was properly classed, DOW.

Technically, I am sure that somewhere there is a record which lists him WIA, and then this later one, DOW.

Finally, you are more than welcome, Paula. I am glad to have been of service to you and to your family.

Anytime !

Louie.

I would accept the 13 May 44 date as the day he died.
