Parachute troops were originally organized in battalions but later expanded to form regiments. Parachute and glider infantry regiments were organized in the same manner as ground infantry regiments (see Message #4717). Airborne divisions were organized generally in the same manner as infantry divisions - three regiments of infantry, each alloted a battalion of field artillery in direct support with another battalion in general support of all three.
Prior to 1 March 1945, an airborne division generally was assigned two glider and one parachute regiments. Effective that date, the configuration was changed to one glider and two parachute regiments.
