Greetings, Lauren Nelson !
Your grandfather's unit was activated 1 Apr 43, at
Camp Swift, TX., where it was derived from the
1st BN, 146th Engineer Regiment.
It departed Boston POE, 11 Oct 43;
arrived England, 17 Oct 43;
arrived France-ETO, 6 June 44 (D-Day).
It participated in five Campaigns:
Normandy, 6-6-44 / 24 Jul 44;
(The invasion of Europe, D-Day, 6-6-44);
Northern France, 25 Jul 44 / 14 Sep 44;
Ardennes-Alsace, 16 Dec 44 / 25 Jan 45;
(The Battle of the Bulge created overlaps in campaign participation by many Army elements);
Rhineland, 15 Sep 44 / 21 Mar 45;
Central Europe, 22 Mar 45 / 7 May 45
The unit returned to NYPOE, 17 Oct 45;
inactivated at Camp Shanks, NY, 18 Oct 45.
Finally, it may be fruitful if you provide his name,and indicate the dates of his overseas tenure.
I hope that the above is of benefit to you and to your family.
With best regards,
