I have a 1972 Membership Directory from the Panther Veteran Organization - 66th Division that my father belonged to.His name is listed under the 872 Field Artillary Battalion, Battery A.
I've been going through some of his papers and now see on a Xmas card that had been returned from Germany that in pencil it is written 10th Inf. and again 5th Inf.
I also have a postcard from Germany informing my mother that my dad had been taken a prisoner of war inGermany. On this it says "Prisoner of War Camp - F.P. Nr. 40 527.On the front of the card it is stamped "GEPROFT - STALAG X11A - 35a"
This is a different number!
The German calendar I have from 1945 that my Dad kept while he was over there indicates he was captured on Jan. 27.Under that he wrote "Puchi - captured." Because he had been shot, according to this calendar, he went from one hospital to the next..On Mar. 2, it says "Wittlich" , the next day itsays "Witt Hosp."T he 4th - "Kochkem Hosp."The 5th "Winnegen Hosp."The 6th "Koblenz Hosp - BAD EMS" - On Mar. 10 "Dstein Hosp" - On Mar. 14th - Frankfurt on Train"- the 15th " KONIGSTEIN BAD SODEN" - The 16th " BAD ORB-N - STALAG 9-B P.W." - Liberated Apr. 2, with some other notations.
