Organized as 2d Battalion, 146th Engineer (Combat) Regiment at Camp Swift, Texas in January 1943. Redesignated 206th Engineer (Combat) Battalion, an element of 1116th Engineer (Combat) Group, 1 April 1943. Overseas 11 October 1943 (arrived in England 18 October). Landed in France 27 June 1944. Five campaign participation credits: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace & Central Europe. Returned to United States November 1945. Inactivated 28 November 1945 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. No unit decorations so far as I can determine. How any of the above applies to your Dad (campaign credit eligibility, etc.) would , of course, depend on his dates of service with the battalion.
Your best source for locating individuals who served with him would be a battalion veterans association but unable to locate one (if, in fact, one exists or ever did). It's a real long shot but you might try:
