The V interceptor command was part of the Army Air Force in the Far East in the Philippines at the beginning of WWII. One of the primary units attatched to it was the 24th Pursuit Group flying P-40 aircraft . Remnants of this unit went to Java and later to Australia. Many of the enlisted personnell and non-flying officers ended up fighting as infantry on Bataan. The V interceptor command was the nucleaus of the 5th Fighter Command of the 5th Air Force which was established in Australia after the fall of the Philippines.
