Someone posted an inquiry re the above unit. I can't find the posting and also couldn't locate anything on the unit. I have access to a collection of unit histories of all combat squadrons and groups active during World War II and this squadron isn't listed. There was a 59th Fighter Squadron, 59th Bombardment Squadron (Light) and 59th Troop Carrier Squadron. A squadron or group's special capability was indicated by a suffix in parentheses. Some of the most common of these were (Very Heavy), (Heavy), (Medium), (Light), etc., and were often abbreviated (VH), (H), (M), (L), etc. I also couldn't locate anything on the above suffix (VLR) but I would assume it means (Very Light Reconnaissance) which may indicate the squadron - if it existed - flew very light, single-engine aircraft, such as Piper Cubs.
There's always the possibility the person who posted the message confused the period of service and this squadron was active during a later action (Korea, Vietnam, etc.)
