Greetings, Margaret A. Bass !
I really don't have much material to draw upon in response to your inquiry.
This unit's full designation was:
1759th Engineer Special Shop Battalion (Boat Construction).
It was created at Milne Bay, New Guinea, 1 Nov 44, from the 1307th Engineer General Service Regiment.
The 1759th departed New Guinea, 15 Nov 44;
arrived Philippines, 12 May 45.
Campaigns:
1307th, New Guinea, 24 Jan 44 / 31 Dec 44.
1759th, Luzon, 15 Dec 44 / 4 Jul 45.
1759th location at war's end, 15 Aug 45, Batangas, Philippines.
The 1759th was inactivated 20 Jan 46, in the Philippines.
He may well have put in time in the 1307th, which left SFPE
16 Mar 43, and arrived Australia 2 Apr 44, then moved out to Milne Bay, New Guinea, where it was redesignated the 1307th Engineer Construction Battalion.
Check your dad's papers, which will state when he departed/returned USA.
Let me know if this fits in with your knowledge of his military history. OK ?
With best regards,
Louie F. Turner.
