WWII Spy? Russell F. Edwards 10/13/1906
I am searching for some info on my husband's father. The family "secret" is that he was a spy in the Navy in WWII. The only paperwork I have shows him as a model ship builder (wood) at the David Taylor Model Basin in DC. He retired after 20 yrs with a Disability pension in 1952 as a civilian. He died as a result of a heart attack in 1955 and was buried the day my husband was born.My husband never knew anyone from his father's side of the family. My question is:Will there be any records anywhere if someone actually was a "spy" and could they be accessed? My husband was told by a family member (on his mother's side) who was one of the Chosin Few (sp?) that his father spoke 4 or 5 languages and was stabbed in the heart by a female spy and that was a result of his disability and heart problems.Would the civilian job be a cover for the secret one?I have lots of questions if anyone out there can point me in the right direction to start my search! There is quite a bit of mystery surrounding this man.I have a 1951 Tax Return showing him in Silver Spring, MD.(He married my husband's mother in 1953 in FL) Before that I can't find anything about him or his family. His name is Russell Frederick Edwards b. 10/13/1906.We would really like to find out how much is truth and how much is myth in this family history! Thanks to anyone who is kind enough to reply.Becky
