My father Raymond KLOPSCH worked as grounds crew for airplanes in New Guinea and the Philippines in World War II.He was either enlisted or drafted after June 1942.I am trying to figure out whether he was in the Fifth Army Air Force or the Thirteenth Army Air Force.Does anyone have any clues as to how to determine which one?My only clues: He spoke of coming ashore at a beach with many dead bodies "the worst day of my life", spoke of needing to find wood in New Guinea to cover the floor of their tents because of terrible mud. I know he worked with bombers, probably other planes too. I have a photo he took of strafing on an air field(dirt I think). I know he was in both New Guinea and the Philippines.
I would love any suggestions/leads you might have. -Katherinekurtkathkels@aol.com
