Greetings, Robert Jerome Younger !
I was especially pleased to find your post this morning,
and can confirm that your reporting date to the 456th was 14 April 1944.
This knowledge comes from a 50 page-or-so copy of a typed article entitled:
"A HISTORY OF THE 456th ENGINEER DEPOT COMPANY".
It traces the unit from activation at Camp Barkley, TX,
20 July 42, to its inactivation and subsequent designation as the 2757th EDC, 30 June 44, in Burma.
Way deep in the article is the following passage:
"The company strength was augmented by five men April 12-14:
Pvt. Carl P. Schrembeck came April 12,
Pvts. Frank E. Malley, Toros N. Omartian (sp.?)
and Robert Jerome Younger April 14.
Pvt. Leo Brhem, who was assigned on the same order, did not arrive until April 19."
This portion of the unit history is among the last seven pages of the article.
If you would like, I will copy those pages for you, or would be happy to copy the entire thing for you.
Of the names you mention (Knudson, Chrysler), I see a Weldon M. Knudson, but no Clyde.
There is no listing of a Chrysler, but there is a
Jess W. Younger, from the original contingent at Barkley.
You had to have known my brother-in-law,
ELVIE D. (DECKER) WRIGHT, who was the unit's Mess Sgt.
Decker's widow is alive and about as well as could be expected. In the event you do recall Decker, you may post her thru my address. OK ?
Again, I was so pleased to hear from you, and anticipate your response.
Louie F. Turner.
