My uncle John J. OBrien served in the 8th Combat engineers during WWII.He received 3 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He may have served in the Korean war but I'm not sure.My uncle was born and raised in Philadelphia.
My Uncle John was distant from the family. He moved to Kansas, possibly working at Fort Levenworth.I have tried all the usual routes to learn more about him without any luck.I don't think he was married.I was young (pre-teen) when I remember John died and my father went to bury him.
I have contacted the Korean/Vietnam forum and that hasn't produced any results about the 8th.
I'm looking for a forum for the 8th Engineers.I would be interested in learning more about this unit and my Uncle John and wonder what records exist and where.
We have the medals John received but the certificates have been misplaced.I remember seeing them and if possible I was wondering if they can be replaced.I have a photograph of John being awarded the Bronze Star.
As a side note my brother was in the 8th Engineers during Vietnam.
