1. General: a. The 67th General Hospital was authorized on 3 March 1941, and activated 1 September 1942, for the reception and treatment of all classes of patients.The early history of the Unit was given in detail in the Annual Report for 1942, and, therefore, will not be repeated the the present report, except to state that training was conducted at Fort Bliss, Texas until 12 November 1942, and that the Unit arrived in the European Theater of Operations on 1 December 1942, taking over its present hospital site on 5 December 1942, at 0001 hours, where it has remained ever since.
b. The hospital is located immediately northwest of the town of Taunton, in Somerset, England, which has approximately 30,000 population.The climate is temperate.There is no marked variation of temperature throughout the year.The hospital site had already been developed as a British Naval Hospital prior to the arrival of this Unit, but has never been occupied as such, and the buildings were at that time about 80% completed.
