Mr. Schweihs,
My name is Joe Serra, I live in Geneva, Illinois and I read all of the tributes posted on http://www.peleliu.org/tribpg2.htmhttp://www.peleliu.org/tribpg2.htm.This sight is very much appreciated, I'm sure.
I have a Great Uncle who was a Sergeant (by the time he returned home) in the 81st Infantry Division from Chicago. My Uncle is Robert "Bud" Day.Bud would absolutely never speak of his experiences during the war - they were too grim I suspect.I believe Bud received a silver star but have no idea regarding the circumstances I was wondering if, by any chance, anyone knew of Bud Day?Are there any Pictures of the 81st? How can I obtain a copy of the Yearbook?etc...
Before the war Bud "rode the rails" and was a prize fighter ($10 a fight and a steak dinner) and was one tough sonofagun. After the War Bud became a Chicago Police Officer until he retired in the mid 1970's. Bud is still alive and living in Florida, however, he has suffered from Alzheimer's for the last fifteen years and is quite incapacitated.I'm interested in writing a biography of Bud, the 81st and any information that I can "dig up" is appreciated. Please e-mail me if you have any information regarding Robert Day or have any stories which you could share.
Most Sincerely,
Joseph Serra

P.S.I doubt if Uncle Bud is a member of the Association but I was wondering if I could sign him up even though he can't participate in any association functions or activities?
