This is in response to your inquiry of this date.
I am sorry to report that the information you provide is narginal at best, which makes it difficult to hone in on the unit.
There were two Ninth Divisions operating in the theaters you mention,
9th. Armored Division,
and 9th. Infantry Division.
The 9th. Infantry Division included three Infantry Regiments (39th, 49th and 60th)
and four Artillery Battalions (26th, 34th, 60th and 84th).
The 9th Armored Division included three Tank Battalions (2nd, 14th and 19th),
three Armored Infantry Battalions (27th,52nd and 60th),
three Armored Field Artillery Battalions (3rd,16th,73rd, 89th).
As you can see, there is no "match" between the 9th AD and/or the 9th ID with any unit designated as "14th. Inf" and/or "3rd Inf"
Your dad was there at a most critical time, and may well have participated in action in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany.
I'd like to review his discharge papers if you have them. I suspect that the "Brown Star Medal" was in fact the Bronze Star, which was awarded only for extreme bravery under fire.
I can't think of anything else I can do with your information, but am willing to try if you come up with something else.
I would like to know his name, as I have several references, and there is a possibility that he may be listed in one or the other.
Rest assured, your dad was/is a hero.
Please feel free to contact me anytime on this, my favorite subject and duty.
With best regards, Louie Franklin Turner.
