Good morning from Fort Worth, TX, Shirley !!!
The 289th. Inf Reg was in the 75th. Infantry Division, which had a relatively short period of involvement in the war, but a very active and costly one.
It was 1 of 3 Inf Regs. (289th, 290th and 291st) in the division, which also included 4 Artillery Battalions (730th, 897th, 898th and
899th), among other elements...
It participated in these campaigns:
Rhineland, 15 Sep 44 /21 Mar 45
Ardennes-Alsace, 16 Dec 44 / 25 Jan 45
(Battle of the Bulge)
Central Europe , 22 Mar 45 / 11 May 45
Located at Werdohl, Germany at war's end, 15 Aug 45.
Casualties:
Killed in Action, 817
Wounded in Action, 3,314
Died of Wounds, 111
Stanton's "WORLD WAR II ORDER Of BATTLE" has an excellent combat narrative for the 75th. Inf Div, and does reference the 289th. at least once.
Did your brother survive the war? If he died and was interred overseas, I have additional information which I will provide, without charge, of course.
With best regards, Louie Franklin Turner.
