Your Uncle was in the 101st Airborne, 506 Parachute Infantry, 3rd Battalion, Headquarters Company. He is listed this way on the Memorial Pages of the 506 Web site: 3HQ Sgt James L Davidson 9/19/44 Eindhoven Holland
Go to Currahee Memorials Click on World War II Click on "D" You'll see him listed.
A couple of questions come to mind. I know you were told he was a Lt., but he is listed here as a sergeant. Also, you have him dying in Bastogne. This outfit did go to Bastogne, and that particular company was caught in heavy shelling there on January 9, but the stats have him being KIA in Eindhoven Holland. That does jive more with the story of him jumping into a combat situation. The 506 PIR jumped into Holland on September 17, 1944. When they entered Eindhoven later, they did incur some casualties. (My father was with this company and sawa Lt. get killed in the street). Perhaps you can get your Uncle's military records. Meanwhile, go back to the home page of the 506 Web site, go to Photographs and History. Click on Parachute Infantry, World War II. Click on 3d Battalion Click on Photographs. Click on the large group picture. That is Headquarters Company. Click on it again for a better image. Perhaps your Uncle is in the photo. I don't know for sure. This photo was taken in August of 1943 at Ft. Bragg, before they were shipped to England. He may have joined the outfit later. It sure is worth a look though. Let me know if you have any luck. Bob
