I presume that the following pertains to your father.
Charles E. Colvin
U.S. Army Forces
(the 1 inthe S/N denotes that he enlisted)
737th Bomber Squadron,
454th Bomber Group, Heavy.
Entered the Service from: Tennessee
Died: 26 July 1944
Missing in Action or Buried at Sea
Tablets of the Missing at
Sicily-Rome American Cemetery,
Awards: Air Medal with 2 Oak Clusters
Order of the Purple Heart.
If you SEARCH at
which is the site for American Battle Monuments Commission,
and follow the leads, you will access the above information,
which also provides a picture of the memorial at Nettuno.
I would assume that his body was not retrieved, and that the referenced Tablet will be the only "touchable" memento of him.
I visited the cemetery many moons ago, and it is a beautiful tribute.
As next of kin, you are entitled to receive his medals.
I hope that this is the information you are seeking.
Please acknowledge. OK ?
