Hi..Thank you Louie Franklin Turner for your information about the 711th. I havn't checked here for a while, so I didn't see it, sorry. In the meantime, I e-mailed the National Archives and was very specific about the information I wanted; such as training in the desert in California in 1943, etc. In a couple of weeks, I heard from them. They had found the files pertaining to the 711th Tank Battalion, the information on the California desert in 1943, Hawaii in 1944, the Phillipines, and Okinawa. I specifically asked for the After Action Reports that I had seen referred to in "Okinawa-The Last Battle" from the book "The War in the Pacific". There were 105 pages!@.50 per page. I ordered them. It was worth it. I have received them and am working my way through. I think my Dad will be happily surprised. Now, if I could only find some living members for him.
I didn't have any information after December 1945, so I was happy to see that you found the Seattle arrival and the ship, The Marine Phoenix, and the Fort Lawton inactivation location. Thanks again!
