Our Grand father had been on HMS Illustrious working with 854 Sqn RN. He held the rank of P.O (TY)although just what the TY stands for we do not know. What we do know is that he saw some horrific things during his time at sea in World War II. Anyone connected with him was told not to talk to him about his experiences in the War, if he wanted to talk to people about it he would. Sadly he has now passed away and we are trying to piece together his war time experiences.
However we believe that he was transfered to HMS Nabbington along with the Sqn 854 when HMS Illustrious was sent back to England for urgent repairs in May 1945. It was while he was serving at Nabbington that the war in the Pacific came to a close. Thanks for your information and if you can enlighten us anymore with the information I have given you we would be grateful. Regards Royce
